Established in 2008, Caramel Films is a Montreal-based production company specialized in the development and the production of films for both the Canadian and international markets. Since its creation, Caramel Films has demonstrated exceptional vigor in bringing to fruition a number of successful projects, such as DIE, a psychological thriller by Dominic James, FUNKYTOWN, a film by Daniel Roby as well as ANGLE MORT by Dominic James.
Also worth noting is Ken Scott’s second film, STARBUCK with Patrick Huard and Julie Le Breton, which won several awards including the Bobine d’or for the best Quebec box office in 2011 and several awards at numerous international festivals. In addition, this film was the subject of an American remake in 2013, produced by André Rouleau with Dreamworks, entitled DELIVERY MAN.
Always on the lookout for stimulating projects, Caramel Films constantly works with Canadian, European and American partners, resulting in a large number of co-productions such as LA NOUVELLE VIE DE PAUL SNEIDJER, directed by Thomas Vincent, DEVIL’S GATE directed by Clay Staub, with Milo Ventimiglia (This is Us), Amanda Schull (Suits) and Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), THE HISTORY OF LOVE, directed by Radu Mihaileanu (Le Concert, La Source des femmes), HIBOU by Ramzy Bédia, and WAIT TILL HELEN COMES, adapted from the bestselling novel by American author Mary Downing Hahn with Sophie Nélisse (Yellowjackets) and Maria Bello (A History of Violence).
Caramel Films has also produced several mainstream English-language feature films with major international distribution, including: GOON and GOON: LAST OF THE ENFORCERS, DR CABBIE, directed by Jean-François Pouliot and THE F-WORD, starring Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks) and Adam Driver (Star Wars). The latter premiered at TIFF 2013, and garnered great success that lead to its purchase by American distributor CBS. Additionally, 2020 marked the release of two big movies; MAFIA INC. by director Podz (Minuit, le soir) in co-production with Attraction Images and TARGET NUMBER ONE, written and directed by Daniel Roby starring Josh Hartnett (Pearl Harbor) and Antoine-Olivier Pilon (Mommy).
Caramel Films has also produced several Québec feature films, namely L’ORIGINE DES ESPÈCES, the first feature film by Dominic Goyer, as well as PAUL À QUÉBEC and LA BOLDUC, both directed by François Bouvier, which were very successful at the box office.
Furthermore, Caramel Films has broadened its reach by adding animated films to its field of expertise. This started with LE MAGASIN DES SUICIDES, by Cesar-winning director Patrice Leconte (The Girl on the Bridge), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. This was then followed by two 3D animated films: BALLERINA, co-produced with QUAD, as well as more rencently FIREHEART, co-produced with Main Journey.
Caramel Films has also recently produced the film ARLETTE, directed by Mariloup Wolfe which was released in theaters in the summer of 2022. This year, they produced the feature film LA CORDONNIÈRE, directed once again by François Bouvier, and was released on the big screen in March. Caramel Films recently finished the post-production of the bilingual (French-English) feature film FRENCH GIRL, directed by James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright, starring Evelyne Brochu, Zach Braff, Luc Picard, Vanessa Hudgens and William Fichtner.
